Kyun Khaki ne Koki ko kaatna chahthee thee

"Jhoot Bole Kauwa Kaatte ....."

Like any other day, today also I was on my usual evening stroll around our apartment (Ramaniyam Magnum). Since it was 'Off Day' for my on line yoga, I set off somewhat early today. My normal habit is to mentally chant Vishnu Sahasra Nama, and Hanuman Chalisa during my evening stroll as well as morning ritual. Together, that makes my usual quota of 40 to 45 minutes. I don't need a watch or timer to confirm my walking duration. However, today's ritual was different. I was bitten by the proverbial bug, the "musical" bug, that is. This happens occasionally, and I excuse myself from the usual chants, and instead put on my ear phone and listen to my favorite songs on YouTube, during walks.

Though my Gurudev (Google) says, it's "Frankenstein" Day today, for me, it was "Bobby" day. And I was listening those famous numbers on the Juke Box. Just as I was approaching the Main Gate during my second round, and I was listening to that famous number "Jhoot Bole Kauwa Kaate ...", in the mellifluous voices of Lata Ji and Shailendra, something interesting happened. I saw this Cuckoo ('Koki' the Kuyil) perched on top of this plant and apparently very scared.

By habit, whenever I see some unusual or interesting scene, my jugular vein starts itching, and I would automatically take out my mobile phone, focus and click. Let's get back to the Koki. I asked her why she looked scared. She said that there was this crow ('Khaki', the Kauwa) was sitting above her on the sunshade and picked up a fight with her. Quite innocently, I asked her, "Why, dear? There must be some reason.."

Apparently, the Khaki had laid 4 eggs some time back, and hatched five eggs. She was very poor in Maths and could not differentiate between four and five, and hatched all five eggs. Her hubby had even expressed his doubt that Khaki had laid only four eggs and how come there are five? Like all wives, our Khaki also had then silenced him by shouting, "Muttai pottathu naanaa, illai neengalaa? Enakku theriyathaakkum..". To cut a long story short, today evening, all five kutty birds in Khaki's nest started crying for food, and one voice was different, and soft. Then Khaki realised her poor mathematical knowlwdge, and had inadvertantly hatched Koki's egg also along with her four. Immediately she pecked and chased away the Koki kunju. And, she located Koki at Magnum, and wanted to settle the scores......

I shouted at Koki, "Jhoot bole, ya Dhoka de, Kauwa zaroor kaate.." Khaki was very happy with me and flew very close to the top of my head twice, and thanked me. (fellow walkers, however, warned me that Khaki will peck my head, but I was smiling unto myself)
